Free Weekly Credit Reports

If you have 45 minutes to spare, it would be an ideal time to check your credit report.

Due to COVID-19, the three major credit reporting agencies – Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion – are all offering free weekly credit reports online through April 2021.  Normally, consumers can access only one free report from each agency every 12 months.  Now, with convenient online access to multiple reports each month, it’s a great time to see where you stand, make any needed adjustments, and receive updates quickly.

Your credit report is important because the data it contains determines your credit score.  If inaccurate information is included in your report, that could lower your credit score.  Low scores can result in higher interest rates, loan/credit card rejections, or even the inability to rent/buy a home or purchase a vehicle.

It’s also important to review your credit report for possible fraudulent activity that may be associated with identity theft.

So, when you get some downtime, grab your tablet or laptop and go online to annualcreditreport.com.  Protecting your credit and identity will be well worth the time spent reading through your free reports.  And, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact a nationally certified credit counselor here at Consumer Credit Counseling Service.  We’ve been providing not-for-profit financial education services for Kansans since 1985.  We’re here to help!
